About

Meet the Psychologist

I am a registered Educational Psychologist with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA) and have been practicing since 2019. My academic journey began at the University of Johannesburg (UJ), where I obtained my undergraduate and Honours degrees in Psychology, along with a Postgraduate Certificate in Education (PGCE).

I subsequently completed my Master’s degree in Educational Psychology at the University of Pretoria in 2018. This academic foundation has equipped me with a comprehensive understanding of both psychological theory and educational practice.

Nandi Atteridge has extensive experience in both mental health and education setting. My therapeutic approach is grounded in a systemic paradigm and draws on principles from Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and Solution-Focused Therapy. I prioritise equipping individuals and their families with practical tools and strategies to support long-term growth and resilience. Central to my practice is collaboration—working closely with families, educators, and multidisciplinary teams to ensure consistency across environments. This integrated model aims to foster meaningful change and support individuals in reaching their full potential across home, school, and social settings.

Teaching Experience

While completing my Honours degree, I taught Grade 2 for two years. This invaluable experience deepened my understanding of the academic, emotional, and social needs of young learners and the support required by both families and educators. It also laid the groundwork for my passion for early intervention and inclusive education.

Private Practice

My internship was completed across both private practice and school-based settings, providing a strong foundation in therapeutic intervention, psychoeducational assessment, and collaborative support. Since registering as a psychologist, I have worked in both private practice and educational environments, offering therapy, assessments, and psychoeducational workshops for children, parents, and professionals.

A formative chapter in my career involved managing a private respite care facility for children with a range of diagnoses. This role required close multidisciplinary collaboration and afforded me the opportunity to receive training in Makaton and Applied Behaviour Analysis (ABA). I later joined a private therapy centre, where I supported individuals navigating emotional, behavioural, and developmental challenges.

Schools

I have held various roles in school settings, including managing the Support Team at a remedial school. In this position, I led the development and implementation of Individualised Education Plans (IEPs), conducted a wide range of psychoeducational assessments (cognitive, scholastic, and emotional), facilitated therapeutic interventions, and coordinated accommodation applications through the GDE and SACAI.

Recently, I worked within a mainstream school, where I specialised in therapy and psychoeducational support. My responsibilities included conducting baseline, cognitive, academic, emotional, and career assessments; managing IEB accommodation applications; delivering Life Skills lessons; as well as designing and presenting workshops for students, educators, and parents.
